Proofpoint is our spam filter for our email system that provides many tools on the user end. One of those tools is their helpful Digests, that show us what it believes (or knows) to be spam. In this guide, I will be teaching you how to use the Digests, and what each option in the digest means.
Below are 2 examples of what your digests could look like:
Sections of the Digest
- From: This is where the sender of the blocked message will be. Here is where you will check to see if you trust the sender of the email.
- Subject: This is the subject of the email that was sent. You can click on the Subject, and it will show you the content of the email in a safe environment.
- Date: This is pretty self-explanatory. This is the date you received said blocked email.
- Action: Here is where you will find your options for what to do with the email.
- Release: This option releases the email to your inbox. Only release something if you have checked all the sections above, and believe it to be a legitimate email.
- Allow Sender: If you trust the sender, have checked the email, and believe that this person will send more emails (and that you would like to receive more emails from them), you can choose this option to whitelist this sender for you.
- Release and Allow Sender: This option is if you trust the email and the sender. You can click this one if you would like to receive the email and whitelist the sender all with one click.
- Block Sender: If you don't trust the sender and believe the emails they send are spam, and you would like to never receive their emails again, you can click this link to blacklist that sender.
- Not Spam: This button is used to release an email to you, but it also sends a notification to the Proofpoint server to help it understand what is and isn't spam.
So that was a quick breakdown of what these digests do, and how to use them. If you are expecting an email, and think it may be blocked, always check your digest first. If it isn't in there, you can contact the Help Desk, and we can take a look at it.
